Frequently Asked
Questions

What is sermorelin?

Sermorelin is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring substance that causes release of growth hormones from the pituitary gland. Growth hormones are naturally produced by the pituitary gland and are necessary for growth in children.

What are the benefits of taking sermorelin?

Sermorelin treatments have proven effective for many patients, and some benefits include but are not limited to: enhanced energy, improved mood, improved sleep, increased bone density, increased mental acuity, reduced feelings of anxiety and depression, weight loss or muscle mass improvement.

What are the side effects of sermorelin?

Sermorelin injections can cause some common side effects at the site of injection, like irritation, itching, sensitivity, swelling, pain, and redness. Less common side effects include difficulty in swallowing, dizziness, flushing (redness in face/neck), headache, nausea, rash, sleepiness, taste changes and trouble sitting still. These usually only last a short time and don't require any special action to stop them. If you notice worsening side effects with injection, hold medication and consult your medical provider for further recommendations. Importantly, if you develop signs/symptoms of a severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of the lips/tongue/face or difficulty breathing, please call 911 and seek emergency care immediately.

Is sermorelin prescription only?

Sermorelin is only available with a doctor's prescription and it is illegal to buy or sell it without one. Be careful of products claiming to contain sermorelin found online - they may be fake or include ingredients you don't know about. Get an accurate evaluation and recommendation from your doctor.

How much sermorelin should I inject?

Sermorelin is only available by prescription, and the dosage you need can vary from person to person. Your doctor will tell you the right dose for you. Make sure to follow the prescription closely and do not use more or less than what is prescribed. Altering the doses without your doctor's advice can increase the risk of side effects or lead to sub-therapy, so it's best to stick to what your physician has told you.

When is the best time to take sermorelin?

The best time to take sermorelin is prior to bedtime. Growth hormone is primarily released during sleep and most beneficial to the body's recovery and repair during this time. Sermorelin can also help to promote sleep. Sermorelin can be taken at any time during the day, but monitor for fatigue if taken during the day.

How quickly does sermorelin work?

Because sermorelin stimulates the release of growth hormone from the pituitary gland and does not replace growth hormone, it can take 4 to 6 months or more to see the full effects of sermorelin. However, you should start to notice some improvements/benefits in the first 7-30 days, with usually sleep improving first.

Can you take too much sermorelin?

Yes, all medications have side effects, and the risk of side effects can increase with increased dosage. It is important to note that in situations where “more” is needed, often increasing frequency is preferred over increasing dose to avoid saturating the growth hormone receptors in the body with too much sermorelin.

Is sermorelin FDA-approved?

Sermorelin, under the trade name Geref, was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 1997. In 2008 it was withdrawn due to difficulties with manufacturing, not safety issues. There are currently new drug applications for sermorelin acetate injection.
